Great job to Tom McNamara and Gilbert Willard! They testified in front of the Alaska House Finance Comittee on behalf of Polaris House. The newest state budget has a proposed cut of $8,300,000 to behavioral health services, which would effect our clubhouse and many other important programs. Tom and Gilbert spoke in front of a standing-room only audience, sharing about the value of programs like Polaris House. Local TV news came to the clubhouse the next day to interview more members and our Executive Director, Dorothy Green. Great job guys, thanks for fighting the good fight!

Happy Thanksgiving! This year Polaris House is thankful for our newest employee, Brad Parsk. Brad comes to us the long way, via England, his home country. He's learning the ropes right now, and is already a valuable member of the clubhouse community. Welcome, Brad!

Don't forget the Thanksgiving feast tomorrow! We're open from 10:00-2:00. Call the clubhouse with any questions.

Friday night, on top of the town!

Last week, Polaris House went on the Mt. Roberts Tram, almost 2,000 up! From the top we had amazing (though foggy) views of the cruise ships, mountains, and Gastineau Channel. Everyone had a great time, and finished the trip with pizza. Credit for the pictures goes to member Steve Todd.

July was a great month for the Polaris House! In the last five weeks, six different Polaris House members have gotten jobs! Five of these jobs are Transitional Employment positions, and one is independant. Like all clubhouse members, these new employees are eligible for all kinds of supports from the Polaris House community to help them grow and thrive at work. Sound interesting? Swing by the Polaris House and learn about Alaska's only clubhouse community.
